Most of us enjoy a cup of coffee, especially in the morning. Even a careful person, though, can sometimes have an accident. When faced with a coffee spill, how do you attack it before the stain sets?
One thing you can rest assured of is, coffee is not the hardest thing to get out. Unlike its morning counterpart, the cup of tea, the cup of coffee is a far easier thing to work with. The properties of coffee do not make for as strong of a dye as the properties in tea. Simply undertake the following 5 steps to removing a coffee stain from carpets, and your carpet will be good as new.
1. To remove coffee, you’ll want to first blot up excess liquid. This will leave a light, and mostly dry spot in its place. Depending on the type of fabric your carpet is made from, you’ll want to use a specific cleaning solution.
2. Most carpet types respond to the following solution. Combine one part white cleaning vinegar, one part soap, and two parts warmish water. Now gather two clean cloths.
3. Dip cloth in your solution and rub gently into the coffee stain. Taking your other cloth, blot up the solution, just as you blotted up the original excess of coffee. Keep repeating this process.
4. Now, take a clean sponge and apply cold water to rinse all the detergent out of the carpet fibers.
5. If there is any excess of cold water in the carpet from application of the sponge, take another clean cloth, or use a dry fold of the one used to blot up the detergent, and soak up any excess of water. This will prevent mold from gathering in the fibers.
Getting a coffee stain out of carpet is very simple, and can be accomplished with non invasive household cleaning products you probably use every day.
